Racing got underway in the rain at the grounds of Knowsley Safari Park and estate, making for a tough churned up, true cross country course.
Four of our young ladies made the long journey to compete for the club. First up was Ella Greenway in the U13 Girls race over 3000m. She made a fantastic start, to get herself into a good position she needed to be in for a top 20 finish. She worked hard throughout the tough conditions to finish in a incredible 7th place, out of 223 athletes, only 25 seconds behind the winner and 15 seconds behind a top 3 place. This really is an incredible acheivemnet for Ella as she still has another year in this age group.
Next up were our 3 U15 girls. Grace sullivan, Robyn Greenway & Devon Low. By the time the girls raced with more rain falling, the course was really tough, and getting any good footing was hard because you were sliding all over the place. However the girls worked incredibly hard & first home for the club was Grace Sullivan who set off with a flying start leading the race for the first few hundred metres. Grace finished the gruelling 4000m race in a incredible 16th position out of 179 athletes. Next home was Robyn, who again made a great start, but her fantastic sprint finish that she always pulls out, passing a few on the home stretch gave her a fantastic 65th place. These two gilrs also have another year in this age group. Not far behind was Devon, who has worked indredibly hard over the winter on her endurance, finished a very strongly like Robyn passing a few on the home stretch and finishing in a very credible 112th.
Exciting times ahead for these girls! lets see what Nationals bring on 25th February.
