“Around 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem this year, which means someone you know may be struggling with mental illness.
By sharing our experiences, together we can end the stigma.”
In the build up to Mental Health Awareness Week 2019 (13th – 19th May), we are proud to announce that our road running section will be piloting #TimetoTalk warm ups during our sessions.
The pilot scheme will start on Tuesday 7th May with the aim of promoting positive mental wellbeing through running.
Cleethorpes AC want to:
- create an environment for our members to talk about mental health, share their experiences and remove stigma
- provide support and guidance to raise awareness of mental health problems
- support people experiencing mental health problems to be physically active, whether that is to support them in starting, returning to or continuing to run
We will be encouraging our members from all groups to pair up randomly and engage in conversation during a warm up which will take place from Cleethorpes Leisure Centre to the Pier and back before groups head out on their sessions.
The club hopes that this will be the start of a positive change to end mental health discrimination. Join us by using #TimetoTalk and sharing your experiences.
“80% of young people say exam pressure has significantly impacted on their mental health.”
In addition, our Track and Field section will be supporting England Athletics #RunAndRevise campaign with a organised running session which will take place during the week commencing 13th May.
This is aimed at students aged 16+ who are looking to take their mind off exam stress and to stay positive during what can be a difficult period.
The club are actively encouraging students to take a break from exam revision and improve their mental wellbeing through running.
This is a free session open to club and non-club members.
The 30 minute session will be student led but supported by qualified coaches and welcomes all abilities to join us for a run from Cleethorpes Leisure Centre along the sea front.
After the session, there will be opportunity to stay for a drink and chat amongst like minded students going through a similar situation to yourself.
Date and time of this session to be confirmed.
